Jean-Philippe Auclair, a highly accomplished and celebrated Canadian freeskiier, hailing from the charming and picturesque town of Sainte-Foy, Quebec, left an indelible mark on the world of skiing.
As a trailblazing figure in the industry, he played a crucial role in the groundbreaking development of the 1080 ski for Salomon, a revolutionary innovation that took the skiing world by storm in the year 1998. This remarkable achievement was merely the beginning of his illustrious career, as he went on to co-found Armada skis, a pioneering and trailblazing freestyle-only skiing company, alongside his fellow freeskier and like-minded visionary, Tanner Hall, in the year 2002.
Notable for his remarkable facial hair, Auclair's unique persona was characterized by a majestic goatee in the mid-1990s, which seamlessly transitioned to a stylish Magnum, P.I.-inspired mustache as the millennium turned, becoming an integral part of his identity.
Beyond his exceptional skiing abilities, Auclair's multifaceted talents also extended to the world of film, with a notable presence in numerous ski movies, including the 2012 critically acclaimed release, Sherpas Cinema's All.I.Can, which garnered widespread critical acclaim.
Auclair's existence was brutally curtailed on September 29, 2014, in a calamitous avalanche incident that occurred during the filming of the webisode series Apogee Skiing on Monte San Lorenzo in the Aysen region of Chile. This devastating event resulted in the loss of Auclair's life, as well as the life of his fellow skier, Andreas Fransson.
