Biography

Juan de Orduña y Fernández-Shaw, a Spanish film director and actor of aristocratic descent, was born in Madrid on December 27, 1900. He initially pursued a career in law, but ultimately followed his artistic inclinations, joining Emilio Thuiller's theater company in the twenties. Throughout the subsequent years, Orduña took part in numerous silent plays, solidifying his presence in the Spanish theatrical scene.

As the first sound films emerged, Orduña made his mark in the industry, starring as a leading actor in El misterio de la Puerta del192 ( Sol9),the first sound film of Spanish cinema. Although his on-screen appearances became less frequent following the advent of sound films, he continued to participate in notable films, such as Nobleza baturra (1935),directed by Florián Rey.

Orduña's career as a director, however, truly flourished in the decade following the end of the Spanish Civil War. During this period, he became one of the most prolific filmmakers of his time and a favorite among the Spanish public, cementing his reputation as a respected and accomplished director.
