Kaiulani Lee is a highly accomplished actress with over 35 years of experience in theater, film, and television. Her impressive career has spanned numerous stage productions, including over a dozen plays on and Off-Broadway, earning her a Drama Desk Award nomination on Broadway and an Obie Award for "Outstanding Off-Broadway Achievement".
Ms. Lee's television credits include guest starring roles in popular series such as "The Walton's" and "Law and Order". Her film work has been equally impressive, with notable roles in "The World According to Garp", "A Civil Action", and "A Bird of the Air". She has also portrayed Martha Ballard in the critically-acclaimed PBS film "A Midwife's Tale".
One of Ms. Lee's most notable endeavors is her one-woman play, "A Sense of Wonder", which is based on the life and works of Rachel Carson. This powerful performance has been the centerpiece of regional and national conferences on conservation, education, journalism, and the environment, and has been performed at over one hundred universities, dozens of high schools, the Smithsonian Institute, and the United Nations.
"A Sense of Wonder" has also been performed internationally, in every province of Canada, England, Italy, India, and Japan. In 2007, Ms. Lee's work was celebrated with an hour-long interview on Bill Moyer's Journal, and the play was later filmed by award-winning cinematographer Haskel Waxter, featuring at film festivals across the U.S., Canada, and Japan, and airing nationally on PBS.
In 2011, Ms. Lee's second play, "Can't Scare Me...The Story of Mother Jones", opened at the Atlas Theater in Washington D.C., and she now tours both plays nationally and internationally.
Ms. Lee earned her B.A. from American University and studied acting with renowned instructors Lee Strasberg, Sandy Meisner, Uta Hagen, and Jerzy Grotowski. She has been a full-time adjunct professor at George Mason University since 1997 and has also taught at NYU's Kanbar Institute of Film and Television and universities across the country.
Throughout her career, Ms. Lee has received numerous accolades, including two Asian Cultural Council Grants in 2014 and 2016, and two Honorary Doctorates from Bowden and Unity Colleges for her contribution to and excellence in the arts.
