Biography

Karen Green, a multifaceted individual, was born in the charming city of Jackson, Michigan, and later relocated to Fort Lee, New Jersey, where she spent her formative years. As her interests and passions evolved, she made the bold decision to move to Manhattan in 1978, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in her life.

Prior to pursuing higher education, Green spent several years honing her skills as a bartender, a profession that undoubtedly instilled in her the importance of attention to detail and excellent communication skills. Her thirst for knowledge eventually led her to enroll in a bachelor's degree program at New York University (NYU),where she excelled academically and laid the groundwork for her future endeavors.

Green's academic journey continued with graduate studies at Columbia University, followed by the pursuit of a library degree at Rutgers University. Her academic accomplishments were soon matched by her professional achievements, as she secured a position as a librarian for Ancient & Medieval History at Columbia University.

In this role, Green proposed the innovative idea of acquiring graphic novels for the university's libraries, an initiative that quickly gained traction and resulted in a rapidly expanding collection. Her expertise in this area led her to write a column for ComiXology.com, "Comic Adventures in Academia," a platform that allowed her to share her knowledge and passion for graphic novels with a wider audience.

Green's contributions to the comic book industry and academia were further recognized when she was appointed as a judge for the prestigious Will Eisner Comics Industry Awards in 2011. Her dedication to promoting the art form and supporting emerging talent also led her to serve on the board of trustees for the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (MoCCA) in New York and later join the board of directors for the Society of Illustrators.
