Karen Kondazian's remarkable journey as an actor began at the tender age of eight when she was handpicked to be one of the infamous children on Art Linkletter's popular television show "Kids Say the Darndest Things". The opportunity to miss school during tapings was all it took for Karen to abandon her lifelong dream of becoming a spy and focus on her passion for acting.
Born in Boston, Karen's thirst for knowledge led her to attend The University of Vienna and The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, where she honed her craft and laid the foundation for her future success. Upon returning to New York, she began her acting career, with her first professional work being in Michael Cacoyannis' "The Trojan Women". Her subsequent performances would earn her widespread recognition and accolades, including the LA Drama Critics Circle Award for her portrayal of Tennessee Williams' "The Rose Tattoo".
Tennessee Williams himself was so impressed with Karen's work that he granted her carte blanche to produce any of his plays during his lifetime. She went on to win further awards for her performances in "Sweet Bird of Youth" (alongside Ed Harris) and "Vieux Carre". At the Fountain Theatre, Karen has had the privilege of starring in Williams' "Orpheus Descending", "Night of the Iguana", and "Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore...", as well as Maria Callas in Terrence McNally's "Master Class".
In addition to her stage work, Karen has also made a lasting impact on television, starring as a series regular lead in CBS's "Shannon" and guest starring in over 50 television shows and films, including "James Dean" (alongside James Franco) and "Yes Giorgio" (with Luciano Pavarotti). A lifetime member of the Actors Studio, Karen's dedication to her craft is evident in every performance.
But Karen's talents extend beyond the realm of acting. She is also a multi-award winning novelist, with her debut novel "The Whip" winning a USA News Book Award, among others. Based on a true story, "The Whip" is a testament to Karen's ability to craft compelling narratives that captivate and inspire.
