Karina Bonnefil, a proud Haitian, was born and raised in Haiti before making the bold move to America in 1987. Unlike many Haitians who migrated to popular destinations like Miami, Boston, or Canada, Karina's family decided to start a new life in Overland Park, Kansas. This unconventional move would ultimately set the stage for her future success.
Growing up, Karina was fascinated by television and knew that she would one day end up on the small screen. Her first love and inspiration was the hit comedy show "Languichatte Debordus," starring the renowned Haitian comedian and playwright, Theodore Beaubrun. The show, which spanned over 50 years, followed the life and experiences of a middle-class man in Haiti as he navigated the challenges of keeping up with the Joneses.
Karina's move to America in 1987 marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life, one that would eventually lead to a successful career in TV and film. Her ESL teachers at Leawood Middle School, who introduced her to popular American TV shows like "The Golden Girls," "The Oprah Winfrey Show," "Murder, She Wrote," "Amen," and "A Different World," played a significant role in helping her master the American English language.
Karina has often credited her teachers and mentors with helping her achieve her goals. She believes that "God places people in your life, your journey to help you on your path to success." During her college years, she decided to take a leap of faith and move to Florida, where she was mentored by coaches and mentors like Lisa Maile, Linda Fionte, Raymond Forchion, and Jay W. Jensen. These individuals guided her in discovering and living truthfully in every character.
Karina's parents, Reynold and Genevieve Bonnefil, were initially skeptical about her decision to pursue a career in the arts. However, she proudly received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Broadcasting, with a minor in marketing-public relations, from St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida.
Throughout her journey, Karina has remained proud of her Haitian heritage and has worked tirelessly to showcase her cultural identity through her acting. She is a testament to the power of perseverance and determination, and her story serves as an inspiration to individuals from all walks of life.
