Biography

Kartal Tibet, a multifaceted Turkish artist, was born on March 27, 1939, in Ankara, and left an indelible mark on the Turkish film industry before his passing on July 1, 2021, at the age of 82.

Throughout his illustrious career, Tibet showcased his incredible range by appearing in nearly two hundred movies and television series as an actor, director, and screenwriter. He initially gained recognition for his lead roles in the comic book adaptations Karaoğlan and Tarkan adventure films.

In the 1970s, Tibet shared the spotlight with numerous talented actors, including Hülya Koçyiğit, Türkan Şoray, Fatma Girik, Hale Soygazi, and Filiz Akın. This decade marked the beginning of his directorial endeavors, as he made his debut with the film Tosun Pasha in 1977.

Under his directorial guidance, Tibet went on to direct an impressive 56 films, with more than twenty of these productions featuring the renowned Turkish actor Kemal Sunal. Additionally, he wrote the screenplays for notable films such as Davaro, Şendul Şaban, and Şabaniye.

Tibet's outstanding contributions to Turkish cinema were acknowledged with the prestigious Golden Orange Film Festival Lifetime Honor Award in 2002 and the Yıldırım Önal Memorial Award in 2006. He passed away on July 1, 2021, in Istanbul, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations of Turkish filmmakers.
