Kate's journey began in 2013 when she relocated to Detroit to join Grand Circus, a startup that focuses on providing tech training. This experience had a profound impact on her, inspiring her to pursue a more in-depth learning experience. Kate then enrolled in the Detroit Labs Apprenticeship program, which allowed her to develop her coding skills and was eventually hired to work on the DTE Energy app.
With a strong passion for empowering women in the tech industry, Kate launched Women Rising in 2014 as a side project. This initiative aims to connect women in tech with peers and mentors, ultimately helping them advance their careers. Kate's background as a youth activist for the environment during her high school years and gap year played a significant role in shaping her current focus on attracting and retaining women in tech.
As a dynamic speaker, Kate frequently shares her insights at conferences and other events. Her recent discovery of a passion for developing sales deals has led her to transition into a business development role at Detroit Labs, which she finds incredibly fulfilling. Despite her love for Detroit, Kate now works remotely from Denver, allowing her to enjoy the beauty of the mountains.
Kate holds a degree in Economics with a concentration in Entrepreneurship from Gonzaga University and is a member of the 2013 Venture for America class.
