Kate French was born in Flemington, New Jersey, and spent her childhood on Long Island with her two brothers, surrounded by the creative influence of her parents, Joan and William Robinson "Rob" French, who were both successful fashion models. As a result, French was drawn to the world of modeling, pursuing a career in the field until her senior year of high school, when she began to nurture a growing passion for acting.
French's early foray into the entertainment industry was marked by a small role in the 2006 film "Accepted," followed by a starring turn as Brooke Crawford in the prime-time soap opera "Wicked Wicked Games" (2006),which marked her debut on the small screen. Her breakout role came in 2007 when she joined the cast of "The L Word" (2004),playing the role of Niki Stevens, a closeted lesbian actress and girlfriend of Jenny Schecter, and appearing in seasons 5 and 6.
French's subsequent appearances on television included roles in "South of Nowhere" (2005) as Sasha Miller, a love interest of Aiden Dennison, and "Gossip Girl" (2007) as Elle, a mysterious nanny, in two episodes. She also had roles in "CSI: Miami" (2002) and "One Tree Hill" (2003),and appeared in the independent horror film "Sutures" (2009) and the independent romantic comedy "Language of a Broken Heart" (2011),directed by Rocky Powell.
In 2014, French starred alongside Jason Ritter in the short film "Atlantis," a romance film centered around two strangers who fall in love in the lead up to the final launch of the NASA space shuttle Atlantis, and had a leading role in the independent thriller "The Red House" (2014). She also had a supporting role in the independent film "Channeling" (2013) and appeared in the upcoming independent feminist film "Farah Goes Bang" (2013).
