Kate's feature debut as co-director and co-writer was Memories to Choke On, Drinks to Wash Them Down, which received the prestigious Best Screenplay award from the Hong Kong Film Critics Society.
As a permanent resident of Hong Kong, Kate has made it her adoptive home.
In addition to her film work, Kate teaches theater and film in local schools and universities. She has also provided acting training to children, including 2023 Hong Kong Film Awards Best New Performer Sahal Zaman, in The Sunny Side of the Street.
Kate leads a joint program for the University of Hong Kong and Broadway Cinematheque, where she programs films and engages in discussions with a mix of Masters-degree students and general Cinematheque audience members.
Throughout her career, Kate has collaborated with numerous international directors and has acted in films that have won national awards, competed in the Tiger Awards at the Rotterdam Film Festival, and been selected for various film festivals, including Busan, Tribeca, Tokyo, and Edinburgh.
Prior to her work in Hong Kong, Kate worked as a writer, producer, and actor in New York. Her notable credits include a critically acclaimed lead performance in A History of Launching Ships for Polybe + Seats, acting in a new translation of Václav Havel's The Increased Difficulty of Concentration at the Ohio Theatre, and being part of a house sketch-comedy team at the People's Improv Theater, one of New York's major comedy theaters.
In addition, Kate produced and improvised real-time Golden Girls episodes in a popular, long-running live show.
