Kathleen Kennedy Townsend is the eldest daughter of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy, making her the first grandchild of Rose Kennedy and Joseph P. Kennedy. Named after her aunt, Kathleen "Kick" Kennedy Cavendish, Marchioness of Hartington, Kathleen followed in her footsteps as the first of her generation to marry.
On November 17, 1973, Kathleen married David Townsend in Washington, DC, with her uncle, Senator Ted Kennedy, giving her away. Interestingly, on the same day, her cousin, Ted Kennedy Jr., was undergoing an amputation of his leg. Despite Kathleen offering to postpone the wedding, the family decided to proceed as planned.
Kathleen and David have four daughters, and they reside in Annapolis, MD. Kathleen is currently the Lieutenant Governor, and she is running for Governor.
