Katie Bonham is a renowned writer and director, boasting an impressive portfolio of work across short film and theatre. Her distinctive style and original vision have garnered recognition for their poignant and thought-provoking exploration of social commentaries within the realms of folklore, fantasy, and horror.
Growing up in a small seaside town in Kent, Katie draws inspiration from her hometown and experiences with spiritualism and Tarot. This unique blend of influences has allowed her to craft a distinctive narrative voice that sets her apart from her peers.
Katie's short films have been screened at numerous events and festivals worldwide, including four sold-out world premieres at the prestigious Frightfest horror film festival in Leicester Square, London. Her magical realism short film, Mab, won the audience award for Best Short Film at Abertoir Horror Film Festival and was nominated for the Melies D'Or by the European Fantastic Film Federation at Sitges International Film Festival.
In addition to her film work, Katie has also made a name for herself in the theatre world. She was commissioned by BBC Arts for their 'New Creatives' scheme, writing and directing the surrealist short film, Selfie Stick, which has been broadcast numerous times on BBC4 as part of their 'Female Filmmakers' features and is also available on iPlayer.
Katie is a member of DirectorsUK, the female directing collective Cinesisters, and has recently joined the board of advisors for Frightfest Horror Film Festival. Her latest theatre direction, a modern female-led version of Romeo and Juliet set within the cut-throat world of fashion design, premiered at Putney Theatre in London.
