Katie Folger is a talented actress, writer, and comedienne based in Austin, Texas. Her work is centered around providing more nuanced representation of women in media, inspired by her mentor Robert Redford. Folger has received numerous awards and recognition for her performances, including accolades from festivals such as Sundance, SXSW, and Locarno.
Recently, Folger returned to her roots onstage with her one-woman comedy "Getting in Bed with the Pizza Man", a 75-minute monologue that explores the perils of sex and being single during the Covid-19 era. The show was directed by Matrex Kilgore and enjoyed a sold-out run in Austin, with plans for an encore in early 2024. It has also been shortlisted for the prestigious B. Iden Payne Awards, Austin's theater awards, this fall.
Broadway World praised Folger's performance, stating that she brings both humor and vulnerability to her story, making a subversive point about the way women are often spoken about. The Austin Chronicle called her a "fierce, confident, engaging storyteller" with "super, effortless comic timing" and a liking for "descriptive detail and heightened prose".
Folger can be seen in upcoming feature films "Family Portrait" and "Tooth Shop Fiasco", as well as starring roles in the sci-fi series "Day 5" and the absurdist comedy "From Dusk Till Dawn". She has also trained in comedy under Amy Poehler at Upright Citizens Brigade and was one of the first on-camera hires as a satirical news anchor and writer for Phil DiFranco's Rogue Rocket.
In addition to her work as an artist, Folger is pursuing a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with a special interest in working with victims of intimate partner violence and in crisis and trauma intervention.
