Born to the illustrious actor Haradhan Bannerjee, Kaushik Banerjee's journey in the world of acting began with a romantic film, Priyatama, opposite Mahua Roychoudhury, directed by Dinen Gupta in 1980.
His breakthrough role came in Ajoy Kar's Bishabriksha, a cinematic adaptation of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee's novel of the same name, where he played the character of Devendra, earning him widespread acclaim.
This celebrated performance, however, led to typecasting in numerous Bengali films, often cast in salacious and negative roles.
Despite this, Banerjee has collaborated with renowned directors such as Aparna Sen in Paromitar Ek Din (2000),Rituparno Ghosh in Shubho Mahurat (2003),and Chitrangada: The Crowning Wish (2012).
In his personal life, Banerjee is married to the accomplished actress Laboni Sarkar, and they are blessed with a son, Susnato Banerjee, who is also an actor.
