Kendre Berry was born on March 14, 1991, in Flint, Michigan, to Ken and Telishia Berry. His parents, both with a passion for the performing arts, instilled in him a love for the stage from a young age. His mother, a theater actress, and his father, an occasional actor and stand-up comedian, encouraged his early interest in performing.
As a toddler, Kendre began playing drums at the tender age of two. By the time he was three, he had already gained recognition as "Cover Boy USA" in the America's Cover Miss/Cover Boy Pageant, taking home the top prize for "Overall Winner."
As he grew older, Kendre's talents continued to flourish. At the age of seven, his mother submitted a video of him performing a Jell-o pudding act with his puppet, Jamal, to the Oprah Winfrey Show's search for kids to feature on an episode with Bill Cosby promoting his "Little Bill" books. Kendre's video was selected and aired on the show.
Throughout his childhood, Kendre remained active in church, school plays, and the local Flint Youth Theater, as well as Gospel Musical plays produced by his parents. His passion for acting only grew stronger with time, and at the age of nine, he submitted a video to Nickelodeon's search for the funniest kid in America.
Out of 10,000 contestants, Kendre made it to the top five finalists, appearing alongside the cast of All That on Nickelodeon's one-hour special, "R U All That." Following the contest, he landed a guest spot on the show.
After witnessing Kendre's dedication to his craft, his parents decided to take a chance on Hollywood. They packed up their four kids, including Kendre, and their dog, Bailey, and made the move to California. Just a few weeks later, Kendre landed the role of Backpack Boy on Nickelodeon's "Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide."
Kendre's early success led to his first film role in "Searching for David's Heart" and guest appearances on various TV shows, including "Cold Case," "One on One," "ER," and "Eyes." Currently, he plays the role of Durrell Young on the HBO, Emmy Award-winning drama "Six Feet Under," which airs Sunday nights at 9 pm.
