Kern Saxton, a highly acclaimed independent writer, director, and editor, calls Los Angeles, California his home base of operations. His academic background is marked by a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Filmmaking, with a specialized focus on Directing, which he obtained from the esteemed University of North Carolina School of the Arts. During his time at this renowned institution, Saxton had the privilege of being mentored by a diverse range of industry experts, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of the filmmaking process.
Aaron Katz, Chad Hartigan, Zach Clark, Brett Haley, and Travis Beacham, rising stars in the filmmaking world, collaborated with Kern during his four-year stint at UNCSA, fostering a creative environment that would yield a plethora of cinematic masterpieces.
Among the numerous short films produced during his tenure, one notable project stood out - Roadside Convenience, Kern's junior year endeavor, which garnered international recognition by being selected for competition at the prestigious 2004 Tribeca Film Festival.
This remarkable achievement was further solidified when the film was showcased on UNC-TV, as part of the esteemed North Carolina Visions program, allowing a broader audience to appreciate Kern's artistic vision and technical prowess.
After completing his academic pursuits, Kern made the significant decision to relocate to the vibrant city of Los Angeles, where he was afforded the invaluable opportunity to shadow the esteemed producer/director, John Flynn, on the popular Lifetime Television show, Strong Medicine. This experience not only honed his skills as a filmmaker but also granted him the chance to direct for the show's second unit, further solidifying his expertise in the craft.
In the years that followed, Kern went on to develop several feature films in collaboration with the acclaimed producer, Paul Aaron, and the talented writer, James Waugh, at the esteemed production company, Suntaur Entertainment. Additionally, he co-produced the internet comedy series, Porntourage, alongside Waugh and the charismatic Millionaire Matchmaker star, Destin Pfaff.
Kern's short film, Deader Living Through Chemistry, a zombie-themed production, garnered the attention of renowned horror maestro George A. Romero, who subsequently selected it for inclusion on the DVD and Blu-ray release of his film, Diary of the Dead, distributed by Dimension Films.
Notably, Kern has also ventured into the realm of thriller filmmaking, serving as director, editor, and co-producer for the 2012 release, Sushi Girl. This notable project boasts an impressive cast, featuring the talents of Mark Hamill, Tony Todd, James Duval, Noah Hathaway, Jeff Fahey, Michael Biehn, Danny Trejo, and Sonny Chiba.
Sushi Girl, which was released domestically by Magnolia Pictures' genre-focused arm, Magnet Releasing, has since been made available in theaters and home video formats worldwide, allowing audiences globally to experience Kern's cinematic vision.
