Biography

Kerry Candaele, a Canadian-born individual, grew up in the small town of Lompoc, California, where he was exposed to a working-class environment. Before finding solace in reading books, he worked in the local fields and factories. Candaele's academic pursuits led him to attend the University of California, Santa Barbara, and later Columbia University, where he was a distinguished fellow and president's fellow in U.S. history.

Throughout his academic and professional career, Candaele has taught various courses, including Italian Politics and Film, The Radical Tradition in the United States, and U.S. Labor History, at esteemed institutions such as Marymount Manhattan College, Occidental College, and California State University, Dominguez Hills.

Prior to establishing Battle Hymns Productions, Candaele worked as a producer and director for Brave New Films, contributing to notable projects like Walmart: The High Cost of Low Price, Iraq For Sale: The War Profiteers, and The War on Greed. His experience also includes working for the Democracy Council, a Los Angeles-based non-governmental organization, focusing on democracy-building initiatives across the Middle East, Central America, and Southeast Asia.

Candaele's extensive travels took him to thirteen countries across four continents for his documentary film Following The Ninth: In The Footsteps of Beethoven's Final Symphony, which garnered attention from prominent news outlets such as NPR's All Things Considered, Bill Moyers & Co, the BBC, and the New York Times.

Currently, Candaele is working on two new documentary films centered around Beethoven's music, Love & Justice: In The Footsteps of Beethoven's Rebel Opera, and Beethoven's Last Will & Testament: The Late Quartets. He is also the author of three books on U.S. history and has written numerous articles for both popular and academic publications.

Candaele resides in Venice, California, with his wife and three daughters.
