Biography

Born in 1987 in the picturesque city of Batumi, Georgia, Khatia Buniatishvili embarked on her extraordinary musical journey at the tender age of three, under the tutelage of her mother, who instilled in her a profound passion for the piano.

As a prodigious child, Khatia made her debut with the Tbilisi Chamber Orchestra at the age of six, and her international appearances began at a mere ten years old. Her subsequent studies took her to Tbilisi, where she was mentored by the esteemed Tengiz Amiredjibi, and later to Vienna, where she refined her craft under the guidance of the renowned Oleg Maisenberg.

Khatia's older sister, Gvantsa Buniatishvili, is also a talented pianist, and the two have shared the stage on numerous occasions, showcasing their remarkable sibling harmony.

In 2010, Khatia signed an exclusive contract with Sony Classical, marking the beginning of a fruitful artistic partnership. Her debut album, released in 2011, featured a stunning selection of Liszt's works, including the Sonata in B minor, Liebestraum No. 3, and Mephisto Waltz No. 1.

The following year, Khatia released her second album, Chopin, which showcased her mastery of solo piano repertoire as well as her collaboration with the Orchestre de Paris and conductor Paavo Järvi on Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor. The Guardian praised her performance, stating, "This is playing straight from the heart from one of today's most exciting and technically gifted young pianists."
