Born in 1969, Kim is a South Korean singer-songwriter who debuted at the age of 17 in 1986. Known as the "Madonna/Anita Mui of South Korea" or "the dancing queen of Korean popular music's renaissance era", Kim is renowned for her stunning beauty, crystal-clear voice, captivating stage presence, and catchy hits from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s.
Kim's fifth studio album, released in 1990, achieved immense success, spawning three consecutive number-one songs and selling over one million copies. Her music career continued to thrive in the mid-1990s, as she successfully released three Mandarin albums in Taiwan under the name 'Jin Yuan-Xuan'.
However, Kim's career took a dramatic turn in 1992, when she announced her retirement due to her aunt's dictatorship and oppression. Despite her aunt's direction and against her will, Kim was flown to Taiwan and Hong Kong to pursue a career in the Chinese pop industry. She released three albums in Taiwan and Hong Kong, enjoying a successful career in the region.
For 13 years, Kim's aunt, Han, withheld the money earned by Kim, using it to fund a failed business venture. Kim eventually broke free from her aunt's control in 1998 and moved to Hawaii to study design at the University of Hawaii. In 2002, Kim returned to Korea to resume her musical career, but found that the Korean pop scene had evolved significantly, with many new groups debuting and the Hallyu Wave gaining momentum.
