Kirk Johnson, a multifaceted artist, has made a lasting impact in the entertainment industry as a drummer, producer, performer, and dancer. His extensive career spans over three decades, with a significant portion of his work tied to the illustrious Paisley Park Studios, where he has been an active member since 1990.
Initially, Kirk's role at Paisley Park Studios involved dancing and choreographing for the legendary Prince's New Power Generation (NPG) from the 1990s. His talents soon shifted towards production in 1993, allowing him to explore various creative outlets. During this period, he founded Kitchen Records, a platform for recording his own music as well as that of other artists, including Walter Chancellor Jr. and Fonky Bald Heads.
Kirk's professional journey reached new heights in 1996 when he took on the role of drummer for Prince, contributing to several iconic releases, such as Diamonds and Pearls (percussion),The Gold Experience (programming),Symbol, Chaos & Disorder, Emancipation (drums/production),Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic, and The Vault: Old Friends 4 Sale.
Beyond his work with Prince, Kirk has co-written and produced music for a diverse range of artists, including Chaka Khan, Larry Graham, Boyz II Men, Jevetta Steele, El DeBarge, Monie Love, Tevin Campbell, Rosie Gaines, Mavis Staples, Nona Gaye, The Donz, Najee, and many more.
