Kristen Stewart is a renowned actress who has been active in the film industry since her early years in Los Angeles, California. Born to John Stewart and Jules Stewart, both of whom work in film and television, she has three older brothers, Cameron, Dana, and Taylor.
Stewart began her acting career at the age of eight, after a talent scout discovered her in a grade school play. She appeared on television in small roles before landing her first significant role as Sam Jennings in The Safety of Objects (2001). This was followed by a starring role alongside Jodie Foster in the hit drama Panic Room (2002),for which she received a Young Artist Award nomination.
Her performance in Panic Room earned her praise, and she went on to join the cast of Cold Creek Manor (2003) as the daughter of Dennis Quaid and Sharon Stone. Although the film did not do well at the box office, she received another Young Artist Award nomination. Stewart continued to appear in a handful of movies, including Speak (2004),before being cast in the critically acclaimed biopic Into the Wild (2007),opposite Sean Penn.
At just 17, Stewart took on the starring role in Twilight (2008),based on the bestselling novel by Stephenie Meyer. The film was a massive success, and she went on to reprise her role as Bella in the sequels New Moon (2009),Eclipse (2010),Breaking Dawn - Part 1 (2011),and Breaking Dawn - Part 2 (2012).
Despite her success with the Twilight series, Stewart stayed true to her roots by working on a number of indie projects, including Adventureland (2009),Welcome to the Rileys (2010),and The Runaways (2010). She received praise for her performances and won several awards, including the 2010 BAFTA Rising Star Award and the Milan International Film Festival's best actress award.
