Biography

Kwak Ji-kyoon, a South Korean film director and screenwriter of considerable renown, was born Kwak Jung-kyoon on November 10, 1954. His illustrious career in the film industry spanned multiple decades, with his directorial debut arriving in 1986 with the cinematic masterpiece Winter Wanderer.

Throughout his illustrious career, Kwak Ji-kyoon earned widespread recognition for his captivating direction of melodramatic films. Two of his most notable works include the poignant Portrait of the Days of Youth, which premiered in 1991, and the equally impactful Plum Blossom, which was released in the year 2000.

Unfortunately, Kwak Ji-kyoon's life was cut short when he took his own life on May 25, 2010. This devastating event occurred after he had been struggling with depression for the preceding decade. The thought of no longer being able to create films, which had been a vital part of his identity, weighed heavily on his mind and ultimately led to his tragic demise.
