L.A. Winters, born Lisa Ann Yokubinas, hails from Baltimore, Maryland, where she was destined to become a performer and storyteller. After a prolonged absence from the industry, L.A. has made a triumphant return, fueled by her passion for the arts. Prior to her current endeavors, she was widely recognized as one of the iconic Doublemint Twins of the 80's, but her latest roles in indie features, such as Grantham & Rose and The Mandie series, have solidified her status as a talented actress.
L.A.'s journey in the entertainment industry began at a tender age of ten, when she and her twin sister accompanied their mother to an audition for a local community theater's production of Carousel. To their surprise, the director invited the girls to audition, and although L.A.'s singing debut was met with disappointment, she discovered a love for dance and the thrill of having an audience.
As a teenager, L.A. danced professionally in The Bugs Bunny Show at Six Flags and later in choreographed fashion shows in and around Chicago. Her dance opportunities paved the way for a successful modeling career, which spanned print, commercials, and industrials. In 1983, L.A.'s agent sent her to her first acting audition for the hit movie, Flashdance, where she was one of the finalists for the lead role. The experience left a lasting impression on her, solidifying her passion for acting.
L.A. continued to hone her craft, studying acting in Chicago and later in Atlanta, after relocating in 1985. Her big break came when she landed the lead role in an off-off Broadway production of Barefoot in the Park in New York City. The exposure led to a 2 1/2-year stint in the city, where she continued her training and work.
After returning to Atlanta in 1990, L.A. dedicated herself to raising her three children while directing her creative talents towards arts programming at her church, serving as drama director and a member of their creative team. Her return to professional acting has allowed her to reconnect with Atlanta's thriving community of actors, writers, and filmmakers.
In recent years, L.A. has discovered a new passion for working behind-the-camera, writing, and producing. Her production company, A Thousand Word Pictures, LLC, is currently producing her short film, Parked, while her first full-length screenplay, Beautiful Goodbye, is in development. L.A. believes her artistic purpose is to create stories and characters that are raw, real, and redemptive.
When not pursuing her acting and producing endeavors, L.A. is an A.C.E. certified personal trainer and 200-hour RYT-Yoga instructor. In her limited spare time, she loves helping others find health and wellness through her fitness business, New Leaf Life.
