Biography

Morey, an American lyricist and author, is renowned for his remarkable collaborations with composer and songwriter Frank Churchill, resulting in the creation of iconic musical numbers for Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937.

Notably, Morey co-wrote the memorable tunes "Heigh-Ho", "I'm Wishing", and "Whistle While You Work", which have since become an integral part of Disney's legacy.

In addition to his work on Snow White, Morey also contributed to the picture as a sequence director.

Another significant achievement of Morey's was adapting Felix Salten's 1923 novel, "Bambi, a Life in the Woods", for the screen, alongside Churchill. This adaptation not only showcased Morey's creative prowess but also marked a significant milestone in his career.

Assisted by Perce Pearce, Morey is credited with developing the endearing characters of Thumper the rabbit and Flower the skunk, aimed at injecting a sense of levity into the film.

One of the musical numbers from Bambi, "Love is a Song", received an Oscar nomination, as did "Lavender Blue" (performed by Burl Ives) for So Dear to My Heart in 1948. Interestingly, "Lavender Blue" is an adaptation of a popular folk song.

Throughout his illustrious career, Morey worked with Disney from 1933, following stints at Paramount and Warners. He joined the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) in 1938.
