Larry Reese was born in 1951 in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, a city situated in the heart of the United States. However, his early life took a dramatic turn when his family relocated to Greeley, Colorado, a city in the north-central part of the state. This move marked the beginning of a new chapter in Larry's life, one that would eventually lead him to Canada in 1960.
Larry's family made another significant move in 1966, this time to Dacca, East Pakistan, which is now known as Bangladesh. It was during this time that Larry had the opportunity to meet and learn from the renowned sitar player, Ravi Shankar, on a trip to Calcutta. This experience had a profound impact on Larry's musical journey and would later influence his work in the music industry.
After returning to Canada in 1968, Larry began playing guitar and recording with several bands, including Manna and Spiney Norman's Whooppee Band. He also toured North America with the Canadian Rock Opera Company, performing in the iconic musical, "Jesus Christ Superstar."
Larry's music career continued to flourish, with him serving as the opening act for the Procol Harum LP, "Live With the Edmonton Symphony." He also had the opportunity to play sitar on the track, "In Held Twas I." Larry's musical talents were further recognized when he earned a Bachelor of Music in Composition from the University of Alberta.
In addition to his music career, Larry also pursued a degree in acting, earning his Master's degree from Brandeis University in Massachusetts in 1978. He returned to Canada and began working as an actor and teacher in theater and film and television. Larry has had the privilege of working with some of the most renowned actors and directors in the industry, including Clint Eastwood, Ang Lee, James Caan, Heath Ledger, Michael Ironside, and Gene Hackman.
Larry's impressive acting career includes a lead role in the Canadian classic, "The Hounds of Notre Dame." He has also produced, directed, and co-written the award-winning independent feature, "Naked Frailties."
Today, Larry heads the Motion Picture Arts Program at Red Deer College, where many of his students have gone on to achieve great success in the television and film industries. He lives with his family in a beautiful lakeside residence beside Sylvan Lake.
