He began his formal education in film at the Beijing Film Academy, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Directing. Yang's passion for storytelling and his desire to explore the intersection of Chinese and Western cinematic traditions led him to pursue a Master's degree in Film from the University of Edinburgh. Upon completing his studies, Yang returned to China and began working as a director and screenwriter, quickly establishing himself as a rising talent in the Chinese film industry.
