Laura Adkin is a filmmaker with a rich background, hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, where she initially began her career in the early 2000s, commencing as an actor and gradually transitioning to behind-the-scenes roles over the course of a decade, eventually assuming the positions of producer, writer, and director.
Laura's journey in the film and television industry has been marked by an array of accomplishments, including the creation of numerous short-form projects, which ultimately led to the development of her directorial debut, The Goodnight Kiss, a film that received the esteemed Bravofact grant and garnered widespread recognition, showcasing its versatility by being featured at various international film festivals, earning numerous accolades, including the prestigious Best Short Film award at the Edmonton International Film Festival, as well as eight Leo Awards nominations.
Some of Laura's notable achievements include being handpicked for a female directors initiative through Disney, being selected to pitch for the MPPIA short film award, having her screenplays and short films compete as finalists multiple times at the Austin Film Festival, being chosen for Telus Storyhive's Career Accelerator, and participating in WIDC's Career Advancement Module.
When not actively involved in the creative process of writing, directing, producing, or acting, Laura is deeply invested in the film community, and in her free time, she is an ardent fan of the Vancouver Canucks.
