Laura Cannon, a talented and captivating actress, made a lasting impression in a limited yet notable number of explicit adult films produced in New York City during the early to mid-1970s.
Born Janet Lynn Channin on April 6, 1947, in Evanston, Illinois, Laura was of Jewish descent. Her early exposure to acting began with grade school theater productions. As the younger sister of two older brothers, Laura and her family relocated to La Jolla, California, when she was a young child. After graduating from La Jolla High School in 1965, Cannon moved to New York City to attend the prestigious NYU Tisch Graduate Acting School, which she completed in 1971.
Prior to her adult film career, Laura worked as an extra in various movies shot in New York City. She began her journey in the adult entertainment industry as a nude model for several men's magazines, featuring on the cover of the November 1972 issue of Frolic. Following her introduction to actress-turned-agent Linda Boyce, Cannon started acting in soft-core sex films for renowned East Coast adult filmmaker Leonard Kirtman in the late 1960s. She then transitioned to more explicit hardcore content in the early 1970s.
Laura's most notable performances include her portrayal of an amorous art college student in Joseph W. Sarno's The Young, Erotic Fanny Hill (1971),a brassy yet troubled prostitute in Andy Milligan's Fleshpot on 42nd Street (1972),and a convincing and heart-breaking performance as a deranged Vietnam veteran serial rapist/killer in the notorious porn roughie Forced Entry (1973). In addition to her work in Forced Entry, Laura acted in five other films alongside director Shaun Costello.
After quitting the adult film industry around 1974, Laura continued to reside in New York City for several years before eventually returning to La Jolla, California. Cannon passed away at the age of 63 on June 17, 2010.
