Laz Alonso, a talented actor, has been recognized as one of Variety's "Top Ten Actors to Watch" and is part of the new generation of leading men in Hollywood. He is currently starring in Amazon Prime's series THE BOYS and can also be seen in LA'S FINEST alongside Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba.
In addition to his television work, Alonso has appeared in a range of films, including CASH TRUCK, opposite Jason Statham, Josh Hartnett, and Holt McCallany, as well as DETROIT, directed by Kathryn Bigelow, and TRAFFIK, opposite Paula Patton and Omar Epps. He has also starred in JUMPING THE BROOM, for which he received a NAACP IMAGE AWARD for Outstanding Actor In A Motion Picture, and has been nominated for a BET Best Actor Award.
Alonso's film career has been marked by a wide range of roles, from heroic characters like Tsu'Tey in James Cameron's AVATAR to villainous characters like Fenix Calderon in Universal's FAST AND FURIOUS. He has also appeared in STOMP THE YARD, THIS CHRISTMAS, JARHEAD, and STRAW DOGS, and has starred in Spike Lee's MIRACLE AT ST. ANNA.
In addition to his acting work, Alonso has also ventured into producing and directing. He executive produced and starred in DOWN FOR LIFE, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and directed a mini documentary titled I AM, which premiered at Art Basel.
Born and raised in Washington D.C., Alonso always knew he wanted to be an actor. He graduated from Howard University School of Business, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. After college, he worked on Wall Street as an investment banker at MERRILL LYNCH and began his acting career simultaneously, doing NY off-Broadway theater. He credits his ability to tackle a wide range of roles to his theater training.
Now, Alonso splits his time between Los Angeles and New York City, continuing to take on new and exciting roles in film and television. He has won numerous awards for his work, including a NAACP IMAGE AWARD for BEST ACTOR.
