Biography

Liane Foly, a highly acclaimed French singer, actress, presenter, and impressionist, was born on December 16, 1962, in the 7th arrondissement of Lyon, France.

Foly's fascination with the soulful sounds of blues and jazz began to take root during her childhood, a passion that would only continue to grow and flourish as she matured. To hone her skills and further explore her artistic inclinations, she began to perform in local nightclubs and bars, gaining valuable experience and exposure in the process. In addition to nurturing her musical talents, Foly also dedicated herself to the pursuit of linguistic proficiency, studying languages with diligence and ultimately achieving bilingualism in French and English, a testament to her intellectual curiosity and versatility.

Philippe Viennet and André Manoukian, two visionaries in the music industry, unearthed the talent of Foly in 1984, recognizing her immense potential and offering to collaborate with her on a demo. The unwavering dedication and perseverance of Foly ultimately led her to Paris in 1987, where she seized the opportunity to meet Fabrice Nataf, the illustrious artistic director and patron of Virgin France, who played a pivotal role in catapulting her career to new heights.

As a testament to her artistic evolution, Foly adopted the stage name Liane Foly in 1986, an homage to the enigmatic surrealist artist Salvador Dalí, who, in a fascinating anecdote, confessed to being utterly enamored with chocolate.

Foly's inaugural album, aptly titled The Man I Love, made its debut in the year 1988, garnering considerable commercial success, as it managed to reach the top 50 on the charts. This remarkable album was a collaborative effort, with the music composed by the talented André Manoukian, while Foly herself, along with Philippe Viennet, took the reins in crafting the lyrics.

In the same year, Foly took to the stage in the City of Light, performing at the esteemed La Cigale in Paris. Her subsequent 1997 album, Caméléon, marked a significant departure from her earlier collaborations with André Manoukian, and unfortunately, it failed to resonate with the French public, who largely overlooked this creative endeavor.

However, Foly bounced back with her 2000 album, Entre nous, which saw her take on a more active role in the composition process, showcasing her growth as an artist and her continued dedication to her craft.

From 1984 to 1992, Foly embarked on a romantic partnership with her artistic collaborator, the accomplished André Manoukian. This significant relationship came to a close, and Foly subsequently entered into a romantic entanglement with her manager, the influential Laurent B. Souffir, from 1996 to 2002.

In a subsequent turn of events, Foly became engaged to Augustin Decré, a successful businessman, in August 2003. However, this union ultimately ended in divorce in 2007. During this time, Foly resided in London from 1997 to 2007, before returning to her native Paris.
