Lina Roessler, a multifaceted creative talent, pursued her passion for the arts by studying English and Creative Writing at Concordia University, complemented by a performance degree from the esteemed American Academy of Dramatic Art in New York. She further honed her skills by completing a Master of Fine Arts degree in film production at York University.
Throughout her acting career, Lina has made notable appearances in various television series, including a recurring role on the popular show Lost Girl, as well as guest starring in Private Eyes, Murdoch Mysteries, Supernatural, and Killjoys.
As a filmmaker, Lina has gained recognition for her thought-provoking short films. Her debut short, "The Vow", was screened at numerous festivals, including the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Kids, and won First Prize, Best Children's Short at the Rhode Island International Film Festival. Her subsequent films, "Winter" and "Mustard Seed", have also received widespread acclaim, with "Winter" screening at festivals worldwide and "Mustard Seed" being a TIFF Top Ten pick, as well as winning the WIFT best of showcase award.
Lina's impressive credentials also include being an alumnus of the TIFF Talent Lab, TIFF Writers Studio, Berlinale Talents Campus, and Short Script Station. Her feature script, "The Rescuer", has placed top ten in several prominent screenwriting competitions, including the Canadian Film Festival Screenplay Competition, Vancouver Women in Film Screenplay competition, and was a quarter finalist in the 2018 Slamdance Screenplay Competition.
In 2019, Lina made her feature directorial debut with "Best Sellers", starring Oscar winner Sir Michael Caine and Aubrey Plaza. The film premiered at the 2020 Berlinale Film Festival as the opening Gala film and was later released by Screen Media in 2020. Lina is currently in development on her next feature project.
