Lisa Bonet was born in San Francisco, California, to Arlene Joyce Litman, a teacher, and Allen Bonet, an opera singer. Her father was African-American and her mother was Ashkenazi Jewish from a family from Poland and Russia. Her parents divorced when she was young, and she began acting in commercials at the age of 11. At 16, she landed the role of Denise Huxtable in the hit comedy series The Cosby Show.
She met Lenny Kravitz at a New Edition concert in Los Angeles, and they started dating. The couple eloped in Las Vegas in 1987 and had a daughter, Zoë, in 1988. Lenny's first album, "Let Love Rule," was released in 1989, and Lisa co-wrote a couple of songs and directed his first video.
However, their relationship was troubled, and Lisa made a deliberate attempt to shed her "goody-two-shoes" image by starring in the controversial movie Angel Heart. The backlash from the film is rumored to have prompted her exit from The Cosby Show. She then landed a role in A Different World, but was fired due to her tardiness and personal problems.
Lisa and Lenny separated in a bitter breakup and eventually divorced in 1993. Lenny's second album, "Mama Said," was said to be mostly about Lisa. After the divorce, Lisa faded from the spotlight, making occasional B movies and changing her name to Lilakoi Moon.
Lisa has since become friends with Lenny again and has made brief returns to the spotlight in films like Enemy of the State and High Fidelity. She has also become friends with her former co-star Cree Summer, who released an album produced by Lenny Kravitz. As of 2007, Lisa lives in the Los Angeles area with her children.
