Lisa's directorial debut, "Puppet Killer," released in 2020, earned an impressive 100+ nominations and awards, solidifying its reputation as a cult classic in the making. Esteemed horror publications have dubbed her a "female Robert Rodriguez," praising her unique blend of action, gore, and fast-paced camera work, all while showcasing a deep appreciation for practical effects.

As a stalwart advocate for female representation in the film industry, both in front of and behind the camera, Lisa is dedicated to sharing authentic Hispanic stories. Her unwavering commitment to this cause has earned her recognition as a strong voice in the industry.

Alec Gills, co-owner of the Academy Award-winning FX studio ADI, has publicly praised Lisa's skills, stating, "As a storyteller, Director Lisa Ovies not only has a true horror fan's love of the genre, but also a deep appreciation for Practical FX. She has received numerous scholarships, including a full scholarship to Women in the Directors Chair, where she honed her skills in the art department, and a second scholarship to Chicago's Second City, where she spent the summer of 2014 refining her comedy and writing abilities.

Lisa is also the founder of the EmpowHer female filmmakers program, which aims to empower female filmmakers to take control behind the camera and tell their own stories.
