Lou Savarese, a former professional boxer and mixed martial artist, was born on July 14, 1965, in Greenwood Lake, New York.
Throughout his 24-year career, which spanned from 1989 to 2013, Savarese competed in numerous matches, showcasing his remarkable skills in the ring.
One of the most notable moments in his boxing career was in January 1996, when he won the IBF USBA Heavyweight title by defeating former contender Buster Mathis Jr. in seven rounds.
Later that year, on April 26, 1997, Savarese challenged for the Lineal Heavyweight Championship, but unfortunately, lost to the Lineal World Heavyweight Champion George Foreman via a controversial split decision.
In 1998, he won the IBA World Heavyweight title against former Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion Buster Douglas, knocking him out in the first round.
The following year, on June 24, 2000, Savarese faced off against former Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson, but lost via a first-round technical knockout.
On September 22, 2002, he won the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Heavyweight title by defeating former two-time World Heavyweight Champion Tim Witherspoon via a fifth-round TKO.
In 2007, Savarese fought former four-time World Heavyweight Champion Evander Holyfield, showcasing his determination and heart, but ultimately lost by unanimous decision.
After the fight, he announced that it would be his last bout, marking the end of his illustrious boxing career.
Aside from his achievements in the ring, Savarese has also made a name for himself in the entertainment industry. He has appeared in various TV shows, including The Jury, Guiding Light, The Sopranos, Damages, and Rescue Me, as well as the movie We Own the Night.
He also starred in ESPN's documentary Cinderella Man: The James J. Braddock Story, receiving excellent reviews for his portrayal of boxer Max Baer.
In recent years, Savarese has appeared in several independent films, including Nicky's Game, A Matter of Honor, and Knock, Knock, a horror film in which he plays the villainous character Rico.
Additionally, he made a cameo appearance in an episode of Law & Order SVU, titled "Pure," playing the role of Officer Baxter.
