Luca Calvani, a talented individual with a rich and diverse background, was born in the picturesque region of Tuscany, Italy. He began his educational journey by studying textile engineering in Milan, before moving to New York City to further his studies.
While in New York, Calvani was introduced to the world of acting by a photographer turned screenwriter/director, Kelley Sane. He subsequently trained with Ron Stetson and Susan Batson, and even attended sessions at the renowned Actor's Studio.
Calvani's American debut came in the form of the popular HBO series, Sex and the City, where he starred alongside Alan Cumming and Sarah Jessica Parker in 1998. He then went on to appear in the award-winning European film, The Ignorant Fairies, directed by Ferzan Özpetek, in 2001.
Between 2001 and 2012, Calvani worked on various projects, including the CBS TV series, As the World Turns, and the Italian TV series, Il commissario Manara, Tutti pazzi per amore, Married to a Cop, Sposami, and Una buona stagione, all of which aired on the Rai Uno network. He also hosted the prime-time talk show, Effetto sabato, on RaiUno in 2008.
In addition to his television work, Calvani has appeared in a number of films, including Men Vs Women, directed by Fausto Brizzi, The International, directed by Tom Tykwer, To Rome with Love, directed by Woody Allen, When in Rome, directed by Mark Steven Johnson, and The Good Guy, directed by Julio DePietro.
In 2013, Calvani joined the cast of Guy Ritchie's film, playing the role of villainous Alexander Vinciguerra alongside Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, and Elizabeth Debicki. He then appeared in the German-Polish thriller, Wrobiony, directed by Piotr Smigasiewicz, alongside Piotr Adamczyk and Torsten Voges, in 2016.
Outside of his acting career, Calvani is a entrepreneur and has launched his own line of fine fragrance candles, Inspiritu, in the fall of 2014. He is also a skilled linguist, speaking French, English, and his native Italian fluently.
In his personal life, Calvani resides at his Tuscan country estate, Le Gusciane, where he produces organic gin and honey. He is set to make his directorial debut with the film, Il cacio con le pere, in 2023.
