Luisa Leschin is a renowned television writer, producer, and actress who has been actively involved in the entertainment industry since the tender age of five. At that young age, she already had her own television show, earning her the nickname "Shirley Temple of Guatemala." This early start in the entertainment business would lay the foundation for a successful acting career, with Luisa going on to appear on numerous major television shows, often playing Latino stereotypes.
However, as Luisa navigated the industry, she began to feel frustrated by the lack of rounded and nuanced Latino characters on television. This desire to see more diverse representation led her to transition into a writing career, co-founding and co-writing the highly successful sketch comedy group and play, Latins Anonymous. The play has since received over 45 productions nationwide, a testament to its impact and popularity.
As a writer, Luisa has worked on an impressive 485 produced episodes of television, spanning both drama and comedy genres. Her extensive credits include working on three seasons of the award-winning Amazon series Just Add Magic, three seasons of the Netflix show Mr. Iglesias, and the Emmy and Humanitas-nominated second season of Gentefied. She has also served as a co-executive producer on the George Lopez show, contributing to five seasons and 122 episodes.
Luisa's writing prowess has also been showcased in other notable projects, including the TBS series Are We There Yet?, for which she worked on its 100 episodes. She was honored to be selected to co-write the feature-length series finale of Hulu's East Los High, following her work on the Emmy-nominated second season.
In addition to her television work, Luisa has also ventured into feature films, writing the dance-driven Tropico for Universal Family, co-writing National Guard Wives for Showtime, Amigas-Sweet Fifteen Club for Disney Channel, and the animated The Kid Who Saved Christmas for Warner Brother's Premiere Entertainment. She has also sold several television pilots, including Sherri, a sitcom for Sherri Shepherd, Mambo Palace, a one-hour dramedy, and Lorenzo's Wife, a one-hour format for CBS/Paramount.
Luisa is the proud recipient of the 2019 Norman Lear Lifetime Achievement Writer's Award, a Golden Eagle Award for Writing, and the first New Voices, Humanitas winner. Under her banner, Tortuga Productions, she served as Executive Producer on Time Pulse, a feature film about time-travel, which is soon to be released.
