Maarten Swaan, a multifaceted individual with a diverse range of pursuits, hails from Middelburg, The Netherlands. Prior to embarking on his artistic career, he graduated as a physical therapist, but in 2005, he made the bold decision to pivot towards a life in the arts, specifically as a musician.
In Guatemala, Swaan co-founded the band Melou, and for the subsequent five years, he toured extensively, honing his craft and developing his unique sound. In 2010, he relocated to Barcelona, where he began to explore commercial acting, which would eventually become a crucial component of his artistic identity.
Swaan's breakthrough in acting came in 2013, when he landed a role in the short film "People like us" directed by Ramon Ayala. This marked the beginning of his acting journey, and he subsequently attended acting courses under the tutelage of casting director Luci Lenox and actor coach Mel Churcher, which significantly enhanced his skills.
His burgeoning interest in acting led to his casting in Mateo Gil's feature film "Project Lazarus" and Miguel Angel Vivas's "Inside". Swaan's dedication to his craft was further solidified when he joined the Conservatory of Meisner, graduating in May 2017 under the guidance of Javier Galito-Cava.
In 2017, Swaan made his lead acting debut in the web series "This New World" directed by Marco Bazzi, earning him the Best-Actor award at the Sicily Web Festival. This milestone was followed by his directorial debut with the short film "En ik van jou" (Won't forget you),which premiered in February 2018 and starred prominent Dutch actors Frits Lambrechts and Nelly Frijda.
The film received widespread acclaim, garnering several international festival awards. In 2019, Swaan made his Hollywood debut, starring in the TV show "Dollface" alongside Kat Dennings. His second directorial effort, the short film "Anxiety", was released in the spring of 2021.
Since then, Swaan has appeared in various TV shows and films in Spain, the Netherlands, and the USA. He is currently working on developing a TV show, "All good things", which explores the complexities of a poly-amorous relationship.
