Maeve Murphy is a renowned independent filmmaker, writer-director, and humanist, whose work often tackles political and controversial subjects, particularly those affecting women. Her feature film, Silent Grace, is a testament to her dedication to storytelling, as it brings to light the largely untold story of the women who participated in the 1980 Dirty Protest and Hunger Strike, an event that was all but erased from history. Silent Grace was selected to represent the UK at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival and received a nomination for the Conflict and Resolution Award at the Hamptons USA.
Murphy's second feature, Beyond the Fire, was met with censorship issues due to its subject matter, but it received an instant broadcast on TV3 in Ireland. The film tackled the groundbreaking topic of love in the aftermath of rape, and one of the characters had been abused by a priest. Her short film, Sushi, won the Subti- International Short Film Award at the Venice Film Festival.
Maeve Murphy's third feature film, Taking Stock, is a comedy starring Kelly Brook and Georgia Groome, which was released theatrically in the UK by Swipe Films and later acquired by Netflix, where it became a front-page feature. Her recent short film, St Pancras Sunrise, screened at the IFTUK March festival at the ICA in 2024 and won the Best International Short Film award at the Silicon Beach Film Festival in LA. St Pancras Sunrise also serves as a proof of concept for a feature film. Murphy wrote, directed, and produced St Pancras Sunrise, with Fiona Kinsella and Jim Sheridan serving as executive producers for Tile Media.
