Biography

Maj Toure, born Martin Anthony Jones, is a prominent American libertarian political activist and rapper. He is closely tied to the Mises Caucus wing of the American Libertarian Party.

Originally from North Philadelphia, Toure founded the educational nonprofit organization Black Guns Matter in 2016. The organization advocates for the right to keep and bear arms, and promotes responsible ownership of firearms within African-American and urban communities.

Throughout his career, Toure has released three rap/hip hop recordings: Solutionary Vol. 1 in 2005, Solutionary Vol. 2 in 2014, and Solutionary Vol. 3 in 2016.

In 2019, Toure ran as a Libertarian candidate for an at-large seat in the Philadelphia City Council. His political priorities included criminal justice reform, ending solitary confinement, legalizing cannabis, improving education in Philadelphia, and providing conflict resolution training for disconnected youths. Ultimately, he finished 15th in a field of 17 candidates, receiving 5,676 votes (0.5% of the vote total).

Toure has also spoken at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in February 2019.

In a 2021 dialogue with Lawrence B. Jones, Toure expressed his support for grassroots anti-racist protestors who emphasized that black lives do indeed matter. However, he criticized Black Lives Matter, Inc. a as "money laundering operation" that "fleeces the black community," aiming to aid Democratic politicians.
