Malaika Jackson, pronounced Ma-LIKE-ah, has always felt an innate calling to entertain. As a little girl, her older sister would dress her up in costumes, and together they would perform instrumental music, dance routines, and acting scenes for her sister's friends. This early exposure to the spotlight taught Jackson that she had a natural talent for entertaining, a knack for performing, and an ability to make people laugh.
At the age of 16, Jackson tried her hand at modeling and appeared in a few commercials. However, her life took an unexpected turn when she was 17 and was scouted by a pageant coordinator at a local McDonald's. The coordinator approached Jackson in the lineup and asked her to participate in an upcoming beauty pageant. Initially, Jackson declined, feeling that the opportunity wasn't for her. However, her mother convinced her to reconsider, and she ended up winning the pageant and being crowned Miss Caribbean Canada.
Years later, Jackson's life took another unexpected turn. While on a two-week vacation in Vancouver, British Columbia, visiting her sister, she was randomly invited to join the live studio audience of the MTV Canada show "969". As she was leaving the studio, a group of producers convinced her to submit a demo tape for a host position, which led to a spontaneous audition for the show the very next week. She impressed the producers and landed the job on the spot, filming her first episode just a week later. This unexpected turn of events led Jackson to pursue a career in media, and she went on to receive a General Arts & Science Diploma, Journalism-Broadcast Diploma, and Honours Degree in Communications.
While living in Vancouver, Jackson also caught wind of a prominent top agent who convinced her to give acting a serious shot. She started doing commercials and, after a short amount of time, starred in over 50 commercials. Jackson's natural ability, sharp instinct, and impressive acting chops have made her a highly sought-after actor. Currently, she resides in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she is thriving in a full-time Film/TV career and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
