Malcolm, a highly experienced and accomplished writer and producer, spent an impressive thirty-two years in the vibrant city of London, immersing himself in the rich cultural and creative landscape that the metropolis has to offer.

As the years went by, Malcolm's skills and expertise continued to flourish, and he became a renowned figure in the world of writing and production, with a wealth of knowledge and insight to share with others.

However, in 2014, Malcolm made the bold decision to leave the familiar surroundings of London behind and return to his hometown of Cape Town, a city that held a special place in his heart.

It was in Cape Town that Malcolm had the opportunity to take on a new challenge, and he was appointed as the head of AFDA, the premier film school in the province.

With his extensive experience and expertise, Malcolm was well-equipped to lead AFDA and help shape the next generation of writers, producers, and filmmakers.

Under his guidance, AFDA continued to thrive, and Malcolm played a key role in establishing the school as a hub of creative excellence and innovation.

Throughout his career, Malcolm has been driven by a passion for storytelling and a commitment to nurturing the talents of others. His dedication and expertise have earned him a reputation as one of the most respected and accomplished writers and producers in the industry.

Malcolm's encounter with the underprivileged community in Cape Town had a profoundly far-reaching and deeply impactful effect on his life, ultimately inspiring him to embark on a remarkable journey of social entrepreneurship by co-founding the DOCi Emerging Film Makers Programme in collaboration with the visionary Michael S.Murphey, with the esteemed support and backing of the US Consulate in Cape Town.

The primary objective of the programme is to offer a thorough and comprehensive initiation into the art of filmmaking to young filmmakers from underprivileged backgrounds, with the ultimate goal of empowering them with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the industry.

Through this programme, a diverse range of talented and ambitious young filmmakers have been given the opportunity to hone their craft, with their outstanding work being showcased at the prestigious Encounters Documentary Festival, a renowned platform that celebrates the very best in documentary filmmaking.

Malcolm's cinematic odyssey commenced at Rhodes University, where he initially pursued a career in journalism, only to abandon his academic pursuits in February 1977, amidst the tumultuous backdrop of student unrest, and embark on a journey that would forever alter the trajectory of his life and artistic expression.

After completing his formal education, he took the next step in his academic journey by enrolling in a postgraduate film course at Middlesex University, which is located in the vibrant city of London.

Following the successful completion of his postgraduate studies, he gained valuable industry experience by taking up a role as a script reader for two prominent film companies, Thorn Emi and Goldcrest Films, which were founded by the renowned film producer David Puttnam.

Malcolm's exceptional talent and dedication to his craft eventually led to his selection for a prestigious BBC writer's course, a renowned institution that has spawned some of the most accomplished and innovative writers in the industry.

In the year 1989, he made the decision to relocate back to his country of origin, South Africa, with the intention of collaborating on the creative aspects of a film production, specifically writing and co-producing the motion picture titled The Fourth Reich, which was directed by the acclaimed filmmaker, Manie Van Rensburg.

After wrapping up his stint abroad, Malcolm made his way back to the United Kingdom, where he secured a prominent position as the Head of Development at Focus Films.

Malcolm's multifaceted career has not only been marked by his impressive professional accomplishments, but has also been punctuated by his continued creative pursuits in his personal life.

Malcolm's professional pursuits continue to be multifaceted, as he currently divides his time between his part-time role as a script editor for the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF),where he is instrumental in refining scripts for both domestic and global audiences.
