Carmen Isabella Miller, affectionately known as "Mandy", was born in 1944 to a BBC Radio producer father. At the tender age of six, Mandy accompanied her father and older sister Jan to Ealing Studios to watch a film being made. Instead of her sister, it was Mandy who caught the attention of the studio commissary that day, leading to her being offered a small role in the Alec Guinness film The Man in the White Suit in 1951.
Mandy took to acting gingerly and signed up for classes, combining them with dancing lessons. She found work in commercial modeling and achieved what popular child star Hayley Mills would accomplish a decade later, but in a dramatic vein. Mandy's strong suit was no-holds-barred tearjerkers, with her finest hour in film coming with the movie Crash of Silence in 1952, where she portrayed a disturbed deaf girl called "Mandy".
Other notable performances included Edge of Divorce in 1953, where she played the young product of a bitter divorce, The Secret in 1955, a covert thriller, and Child in the House in 1956, which proved to be another sob story suited to her talents. In her final film, The Snorkel in 1958, Mandy played a young teen who leads police to her mother's murderer.
After guest shots on TV's The Avengers in 1961 and The Saint in 1962, Mandy left the limelight, forever. At the age of 18, she moved to New York to become an au pair. Mandy married an architect in 1965, had three children, two girls and a boy, and settled down to a life of domesticity.
