From a young age, Hampson's family encouraged his love of the arts. His father, a minister, and his mother, a musical theater Director, supported his creative pursuits. By the time he was 18, he had already been illustrating comic pages for independent comics on commission and sitting in as a paid musician in local show pits.
Hampson's fascination with filmmaking began when he watched the behind-the-scenes footage of the movie Braveheart on DVD. He then attended an accelerated course at the New York Film Academy in Universal City, where he met future collaborator and cinematographer, Paul Olson. Hampson was hooked on filmmaking, but wasn't sure what to do next.
He attended college in Long Beach, California, and received a degree in Animation and Multimedia. Hampson worked as a character animator and Storyboard artist in Culver City, but dedicated most of his spare time to his own independent projects.
In 2008, Hampson and his friends, DP Paul Olson, sound man Ronnie Ursenbach, and producer Aaron Fairley, decided to buy a camera and make a film. Over the next decade, Hampson directed independent features, short films, web series, and commercials under the production banner Brotherhood Pictures, winning 17 festival awards.
Hampson joined the Directors Guild of America in 2016 and is currently preparing his first co-production under a new production banner, set to be announced later in 2022.
In addition to directing, Hampson has contributed to various projects as a Producer, editor, Post Production Supervisor, VFX Artist, Composer, Art Director, and more.
