Biography

Marc A. Pouhé is a renowned actor, writer, and documentary filmmaker with a distinguished career spanning over two decades. He has delivered captivating performances in both classical and contemporary theatre, earning numerous accolades, including multiple Austin Critics' Table Awards, the John Bustin Award for Conspicuous Versatility, and being recognized by The Austin Chronicle as the Best of Austin "Best Classic Leading Man.

Pouhé's journey in theatre began in college, where he made his stage debut as Helicanus in "Pericles: Prince of Tyre" on April 20, 1999, at Tulane University's Lupin Theatre.

Throughout his career, Pouhé has taken on a wide range of notable professional theatre roles, including Othello in "Othello" (2005 and 2014),Macbeth in "Macbeth" (2008 and 2016),Cyrano de Bergerac in "Cyrano de Bergerac" (2014),Willy Loman in "Death of a Salesman" (2017),Kyle Brown in Lisa B. Thompson's "Underground" (2017),Ebenezer Scrooge in "A Christmas Carol" (2019, 2021, 2022),and Thurgood Marshall in "Thurgood" (2021).

These performances have been staged with esteemed companies such as Austin Shakespeare, Austin Playhouse, The Vortex, The Public Theatre of San Antonio, and ZACH Theatre.

In addition to his theatre work, Pouhé has appeared in films like Mnemosyne Rising, The Overbrook Brothers, and Between Kings & Queens, and on television in series such as Friday Night Lights and Prison Break.

Beyond his artistic endeavors, Pouhé is a kidney failure survivor and has been open about his health journey, using his experiences to inspire others.

In 2024, Pouhé authored a memoir titled "The 8th Day," which chronicles his battle with kidney failure, dialysis, and the organ transplantation process. The book offers a candid look at the challenges faced by individuals with chronic illnesses and underscores the need for health care reform.

In 2025, Marc continues to refine his feature documentary "The 8th Day." His directorial debut also serves as the basis for his debut 2024 book and an upcoming one-person play by the same name.

Pouhé holds a Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Media and Theatre from Texas State University and has served as the Board Vice President for Austin Shakespeare since 2017.
