Biography

Marcos Kostenbader Valle, a celebrated Brazilian vocalist, composer, and music producer, entered this world on September 14, 1943. His profound impact on the music industry cannot be overstated, as he is widely recognized for his pivotal role in popularizing the captivating genre of bossa nova during the 1960s. Throughout his illustrious career, Valle has successfully traversed a diverse range of musical styles, effortlessly blending the traditional Brazilian rhythms of bossa nova and samba with contemporary influences from rock, soul, jazz, and dance music.

Valle's early life was marked by a serendipitous convergence of musical inclinations and familial support, as he began his piano-playing journey at the tender age of five, subsequently receiving a Petrof piano as a gift from his parents when he was just ten years old.

As he grew and developed as a musician, Valle found himself drawn to the soulful sounds of Marvin Gaye, whose melodies would undoubtedly have a profound impact on his own musical style and artistic direction.

Moreover, his childhood home, situated near the iconic Copacabana beach, proved to be a hub of creative inspiration, as he formed a lasting friendship with the renowned Antônio Carlos Jobim, who resided mere steps away from Valle's apartment, further nurturing his passion for music and setting the stage for a lifelong journey of artistic expression.

During his formative high school years, Valle's exceptional talent began to shine, synchronizing with the meteoric rise of the bossa nova phenomenon in Rio, a city that would forever be etched in the annals of music history. Among his peers was a future constellation of legendary figures, including the renowned Edu Lobo and the equally accomplished Dori Caymmi.

Paulo Sérgio Valle, his brother, collaborated with him as a lyricist, already boasting an impressive array of songs in his portfolio, which caught the attention of Odeon Records, leading to his signing as a singer.

In April 1964, his debut album "Samba Demais" was released, and his reputation began to spread like wildfire, with fellow musicians clamoring to record his songs, eager to tap into his creative genius.

Valle's subsequent discography, comprising the albums O Compositor e o Cantor (1965) and Braziliance! (1966),showcased a plethora of chart-topping hits, including the iconic "Samba De Verão" and the devotional "Deus Brasileiro."

His inaugural voyage to the United States in 1966 proved to be a groundbreaking experience, as he collaborated with the renowned Sérgio Mendes, subsequently achieving notable success, including appearances on the esteemed television program The Andy Williams Show.

As the session work on Verve Records releases came to a close, Valle embarked on a new musical endeavor, releasing Samba '68, a collection of English-language interpretations of songs from his earlier Brazilian albums. This marked a significant departure from his earlier work, as he now presented his unique brand of Brazilian music to a broader international audience.

However, despite the success of Samba '68, Valle soon found himself feeling a deep sense of homesickness, yearning for the vibrant cultural landscape of his native Brazil. This emotional longing ultimately led him to return to his homeland, where he entered a new and exciting creative phase.

The outcome of this period of introspection and artistic rebirth was the release of Viola Enluarada in 1968, a masterpiece that showcased Valle's mature and introspective sound. This album marked a significant departure from his earlier work, as he explored new musical themes and styles, resulting in a rich and nuanced listening experience.

As a pivotal moment in the illustrious career of the esteemed Brazilian musician, the title track of a notable album, a duet collaboration with the renowned Milton Nascimento, emerged as a defining composition within Brazil, solidifying its place as a signature piece in the artist's repertoire.
