Biography

Margo's life was cruelly and brutally cut short, her trajectory of existence brutally interrupted by the swift and merciless onslaught of breast cancer, a relentless and unforgiving adversary that ultimately proved to be the catalyst for her untimely and sorrowful passing.

Margo and her unwaveringly devoted husband, Frank, were blessed with the arrival of two sons, each endowed with their own unique set of abilities and fervent passions that would shape their individual destinies. The elder of the two brothers, Derek Brooks, was an exceptionally gifted musician who was fortunate enough to have the rare opportunity to showcase his remarkable talents as a member of the illustrious group Jeff St John & Yama, a renowned musical ensemble that left an indelible mark on the music industry from 1967 to 1968.

Richard Brooks, the youngest of two siblings, was imbued with a profound and abiding passion for the intricate and multifaceted art of pottery, which would ultimately come to define his life's work and pursuits.

This innate fascination with the craft of pottery led him to seek out the expertise and tutelage of two of the most renowned and respected potters of his time, David Leach and Shiga Shigeo.

Under the guidance of these masters, Brooks was able to hone his skills and develop his unique style, which would eventually earn him recognition and acclaim within the art world.

David Leach, a British potter of great renown, was known for his exquisite and delicate pieces, which often featured subtle yet striking color palettes and intricate designs.

Shiga Shigeo, a Japanese potter of great skill and artistry, was celebrated for his bold and expressive works, which often incorporated traditional Japanese techniques and motifs.

Through his studies with these two masters, Brooks was able to absorb and incorporate the best of their techniques and philosophies, ultimately developing a distinctive style that was both modern and timeless.

As a result of his training and mentorship, Brooks' pottery was characterized by its elegance, sophistication, and technical mastery, earning him a place among the most respected and celebrated potters of his generation.

Richard's personal life was characterized by a profound and long-lasting connection with Beate Brooks, a bond that endured for an astonishing seventeen years before the couple ultimately made the difficult decision to part ways, marking the end of a remarkable chapter in their lives.
