Personal Details

Biography

Marie was born and raised in Quebec City, where her artistic inclinations became apparent at a young age. She convinced her family to splurge on Jello Pudding, using the funds to purchase a mail-order puppet theater. Despite the limitations of this early venture, Marie's passion for the arts only intensified, leading her to make the bold decision to leave her hometown and pursue a career in Hollywood in the 1980s.

As a young actress, Marie quickly found herself in high demand, landing roles alongside some of the biggest names in the industry, including John Ritter, Steve Railsback, Klaus Kinski, Burt Reynolds, and Harry Dean Stanton in a David Lynch production. After a flurry of roles, Marie took a break from acting to focus on her personal life, becoming a single mother and later a crisis intervention counselor for abused children.

Over the course of two decades, Marie's experience working with children who had suffered trauma gave her a newfound appreciation for the complexities of humanity and a wealth of stories to share. Following her father's passing, Marie felt a sudden sense of clarity and decided to leave her work as a counselor to pursue her passion for filmmaking.

Under the guidance of James Franco, Marie enrolled in a film-making masterclass, where she wrote, produced, directed, and acted in a feature film set in a 19th-century asylum. The result was the critically acclaimed Dark Hours: Roxana. Marie's work did not go unnoticed, and she soon received an offer from Brazilian filmmaker Stefania Vasconcellos to co-write and star in the feature film The French Teacher.

In this film, Marie played the lead role, effortlessly switching between French and English dialogue throughout the narrative. The film went on to win the award for Best Artistic Direction at the 2019 Edera film festival in Italy. Marie and Vasconcellos re-teamed to write and star in another feature film, The Uncanny, a supernatural psychological thriller inspired by Marie's fascination with the old and dusty, her experience working in residential treatment facilities, and the quirky neighborhoods she has called home.

Throughout her journey, Marie has remained committed to her artistic vision, always seeking to push the boundaries of her craft. Despite her many accomplishments, Marie still finds joy in putting on puppet shows, much to the chagrin of her relatives.
