Biography

Marie Mosquini, a diminutive yet vibrant and dynamic comedienne, left an enduring and profound impact on the film industry during her remarkable career spanning from 1917 to 1926. During this exceptionally productive period, she made a total of nearly 200 appearances in one- and two-reel shorts, predominantly for the renowned Hal Roach.

Marie, a talented actress, had the distinction of sharing the screen with the renowned Will Rogers in the cleverly crafted comedy, Two Wagons: Both Covered, a 1924 film that playfully parodied the iconic silent western, The Covered Wagon, which had premiered in 1923. This notable collaboration marked a significant milestone in Marie's career, as she continued to hone her craft alongside other esteemed industry professionals.

Marie's close and enduring friendship with fellow actress Bebe Daniels led to a series of recurring appearances in the films of the celebrated Harold Lloyd. Although her roles in these productions were often minor, they nonetheless provided valuable experience and exposure for Marie, allowing her to further develop her skills and build a reputation within the industry.

Marie, a remarkable individual, entered the world in the vibrant city of Los Angeles during the month of December in the year 1899. Her early life was marked by a strong educational foundation, as she spent her formative years at a prestigious convent school. Prior to embarking on a career in the entertainment industry, Marie honed her skills as a stenographer, dedicating three years to this profession. However, she soon became restless, yearning to pursue her true passions in the city of dreams, Hollywood. It was here that the majority of her work consisted of short comedic masterpieces, showcasing her exceptional talent in this genre.

Marie's remarkable career featured a standout dramatic performance as Madame Gobin in the iconic 1927 romantic film 7th Heaven, starring the legendary Janet Gaynor.

Following her marriage to the visionary Lee De Forest, a pioneer in the fields of electronics and radio, who was a remarkable 26 years her senior, in October 1930, Marie gradually transitioned into a life of relative quietude, albeit with a continued presence in the film industry until 1938.

During the 1930s, Marie emerged as a prominent figure in the world of high society, her refined social status and elegance making her a sought-after guest at various esteemed gatherings and events.

Marie De Forest, a woman of remarkable resilience and adaptability, found herself at a crossroads following the untimely passing of her husband in 1961. As she navigated the complexities of grief, she rekindled a long-dormant passion for acting, allowing the creative outlet to serve as a balm for her emotional wounds.

In addition to her renewed interest in the performing arts, Marie also discovered a new hobby that would bring her a sense of joy and fulfillment: amateur radio operation. She earned the distinction of being a well-known "Novice Class" HAM radio operator, a testament to her dedication and aptitude for the craft.

As a member of the Lockheed-affiliated LERC Amateur Radio Club, Marie was able to share her enthusiasm with like-minded individuals and engage in a community of fellow enthusiasts. The camaraderie and sense of belonging that came with being part of this group likely played a significant role in her ability to heal and find happiness once again.
