Biography

Marilyn Vance is a renowned Costume Designer with an impressive portfolio of over 60 Feature Films, 5 Television films, and a Mini-Series. With a unique ability to communicate her creative vision to directors, production designers, and cinematographers, she has consistently delivered high-quality designs that serve the integrity of the film and move the story forward.

Vance has made significant contributions to various genres, including Contemporary, Period, Fantasy, and Action. She was the first female to costume design for the action genre, working on films such as 48 Hours, Die Hard 1 & 2, The Untouchables, Predator 1 & 2, Time Cop, Road House, and The Last Boyscout.

Throughout her career, Vance has received numerous accolades, including an Academy Award nomination for The Untouchables, BAFTA nominations for The Untouchables and Pretty Woman, and a Saturn Award for The Rocketeer. She was also nominated for a Costume Designers Guild award for the mini-series Bonnie and Clyde and was featured on the cover of the Costume Designers Emmy issue magazine with a two-page spread of Bonnie and Clyde.

In 2009, Vance received the Career Achievement Award from the Costume Designers Guild, and in 2012, she participated in an exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, featuring iconic costumes from films such as Die Hard, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller, The Untouchables, and Pretty Woman. The exhibition traveled for four years around the world, showcasing the significance of costume design in film.

Vance has also expanded her creative reach by producing films and television series. She has produced studio films such as Time Cop, Judgment Night, and The Getaway, as well as independent films like Embrace of the Vampire, The Legend of Gator Face, and Digging to China. She has also designed and produced television series such as Pacific Blue and Unknown Sender.

In addition to her film and television work, Vance has designed costumes for the stage, including the play In Heat, which was reviewed in the LA Times as being "OZ-like." She has also designed and produced the play Betraying the Lion, a filmed production set in 16th-century Venice Ghetto, which was staged at The Museum of Tolerance in 2016.
