Biography

Maritza, a talented improviser, improv teacher, and bookseller, hails from California's San Joaquin Valley but now calls Brooklyn her home. With a rich background in the improvisational arts, Maritza has taught and performed at the prestigious Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre and Training Center until the pandemic brought a halt to her activities.

Throughout her career, Maritza has been a part of several notable improv groups, including The Law Firm, a weekend house team, and Living Room: The First Generation, a show that explores the experiences of first-generation Americans growing up in immigrant households. Prior to that, she performed on Harold Night with At Last! and Party City, and on Lloyd Night with seventeen and the Nightmare.

In addition to her improv endeavors, Maritza has also hosted the long-running indie show Kaleidoscope and has appeared in videos for Disney+, MTVNews, Fusion, and various other fun friends' projects. Her impressive education includes studying improv, sketch, and characters at the UCB Theatre, as well as history and Spanish at New York University.

When not honing her improv skills or teaching the next generation of comedians, Maritza can often be found playing the flute, showcasing her versatility and creativity. (Photo by Alex Schaefe)
